A charity which aims to provide a support network comprising of and for veterans of the armed services has had a successful start to the new year.
The charity ’Let’s do’, which began in 2014, earlier this month held its first ’Christmas luncheon’ in the Sulby Glen Hotel.
The event proved a success with 17 ex-military personnel gathering to share a roast dinner and form new friendships.
Let’s Do’s intention is: ’To help individuals come to terms with injuries and disabilities such as amputees, those with limited vision, partial paralysis, PTSD through outdoor activities.’
The staff and customers of the pub have thrown their support behind the veterans’ group with two regulars Jack Lord and Craig Gawne kicking off 2019 by shaving their heads on New Year’s Eve which raised £150.
Along with the Christmas luncheon, the local arm of the charity plan to hold a summer hog roast and party at the pub.
Since it began, the charity has brought disabled veterans to the island for the TT, Festival of Motorcycling and Southern 100 races, something it intends to do again this year.
Its rehabilitation project is also approaching competition where Let’s Do will be teaching the former servicemen and women how to fish, among other skills.
