The countdown has begun for blast-off on the Family Library’s 2018 Summer Reading Scheme.

There will be a space theme to this year’s scheme, which is sponsored by PWC, but library staff are keeping tight-lipped as to the precise nature of the mission.

However, it can be revealed that the library will be the headquarters of the National Aeronautical and Fun Academy - or NAFA, for short.

Librarian in charge Mary Cousins added: ’We can confirm that this year’s six-book challenge will see cadets training to be astronauts.

’We will have lots of games and events during the holidays and all the family will be able to learn about space and planets.’

She added: ’At the moment we are looking for astronaut cadets to register for the reading scheme and we will be able to reveal more about the mission nearer the time. Keep an eye on the Family Library page on Facebook and familylibrary.im for more details.’

To register for this year’s scheme, either call into the library, which is next to the children’s playground in Westmoreland Road, Douglas, or call 640650.

The Family Library is run as a charity.
