Two commissioners in Port St Mary are holding a surgery at 7pm on Wednesday, March 7, in the west room of the Town Hall.
There members of the public can ask questions and raise issues with Michelle Haywood and Andy Phair.Questions have been asked in recent weeks about several aspects of the authority’s operation.
A police investigation is under way into how information about two EGMs was released to the press. The meetings were to discuss the position of the clerk, Alastair Hamilton, who has been on sick leave since early January. Questions have also been asked by residents about a 5.2% rate rise in the village, which was initially announced without any explanation. At the last public board meeting, commissioner Laurence Vaughan-Williams claimed members had been ’muzzled’ from giving the true reason for the increase but said it related to ’an event’.The authority later issued a statement on its website and said reserves have been used on Town Hall improvements and to buy Manxonia House. There is a further 3% salary increase expected in the coming year and refuse disposal costs at the energy from waste plant increased by 4.52%.
