Budding atheletes will be warming up for the annual O’Limpets sports day at Peel Castle on Thursday.

The family favourite event will feature all the usual challenges such as the egg ’*’ spoon race, wheelbarrow race, sack race and a sprint finale.

Each race will be organised by age group, including special races for adults and you can sign on for races at the event.

The fun kicks off at 2pm and is organised by Manx National Heritage whose community learning office Katie King said: ’The Peel Castle O’Limpets has become a firm summer holiday favourite. Where else can you compete in the "Wheelie Fast Barrow Race", test your skills in the "Balance Bonanza" or indeed balance a pineapple whilst attempting to navigate the obstacle race in fancy dress on our historic running tracks.

’Surely there is no harder sporting event on the Isle of Man this summer. And don’t worry parents, the fun is not all aimed at children, we have races for you too.

’So lace up your trainers, grab your family, pack a picnic and come along for a fun-filled afternoon.’

The event is sponsored this year by Lloyds Bank, whose business development officer Lucy Felton said: ’We’re delighted to sponsor what promises to be a really fun family day and I’m looking forward to spending the afternoon in such a beautiful setting.

’Manx National Heritage’s creativity and their ability to give island residents the chance to not just learn more about our history and culture but to thoroughly enjoy themselves at the same time. contiues to impress and surprise me.’

The sports is weather-dependent and will not be run in wet weather.

Standard admission applies at Peel Castle, with free admission for ACE card holders and members.
