A retired police officer who works at London Zoo is visiting the island to encourage church goers to protect the natural world.

Simon Brown, of A Rocha UK, a Christian organisation, is leading a talk for all church goers on ’eco churches’ this weekend.

The organisation runs the eco church scheme, which aims to get people to get practically involved in conservation projects, research and campaigns and then to spread their message to other churches and communities.

The event will take place on Saturday (May 11) at 10.30am in Peel Cathedral with questions over tea and cake.

There will be an informal ’Bring and Share’ supper that day at 6pm at Broadway Baptist church in Douglas.

Mr Brown is now a volunteer keeper in the BUGS house at London Zoo as well as for A Rocha, having worked as a police officer in London for most of his career.
