This year’s Promenade Relay has proved a great success, even with its relocation to Marine Drive.
The race had to move from Douglas seafront up to Marine Drive as the promenade walkway is currently being used as a car park while the promenade regeneration scheme is carried out.
The move up onto the scenic old coast road doesn’t seem to have had an adverse affect on race numbers with 56 teams, representing a variety of businesses and groups across the island, taking part.
Teams ran in relays starting and finishing at the Marine Drive archway and headed along and back the coastal road for a total of 10km (2.5km each).
Winning the race was The Wet Bandits consisting of Steven Donwward, Kevin Harding, Dave Bignell and Mark Burman.
They completed the race in a time of 32 minutes 54 seconds, one minute ahead of second placed KUTA Fitness.
Baker Tilly Tropic Thunder came third.
This year’s event was raising money for the Manx Diabetic Group, in particular the Monitors4Kids campaign, a parent-led campaign with the aim of raising money to end finger-prick blood testing in children, with newer, painless technology.
The event was sponsored by KPMG, Baker Tilly, Barclays, The Claremont, Estera, Equiom, Manx Telecom and Zedra.
