Telecoms company Plan.com joined forces with a charity to raise £45,054.76 in just 14 days.

On Friday night, the company, which is based in Hope Street in Douglas, presented The Children’s Centre with the money, which will benefit Project Mobex, an outdoor activities scheme that encourages young people to reach their full potential.

Plan.com achieved the total by setting ’the ultimate team challenge’, which split the company into five teams who competed against each other to raise the most money.

Neil Kelly, Plan.com’s finance sirectorm said: ’As a company, we set out to raise £10,000.

’Each team was given the task of doing anything and everything possible to reach that target and collectively, we made over £20,000. Our founder was so impressed by the dedication and passion we had all shown that he doubled the final amount. You could feel the pride in the room, it was an incredible moment.’

The ultimate team challenge included five events that, according to the company, were designed to push the staff ’outside their comfort zones’.

In addition, each team created, promoted and delivered their own fundraising ideas.

Kieran Stoutt, manager for Mobex, said: ’Mobex is an incredible initiative but the only real way to explain why it’s so effective is for the people to experience it for themselves.

’By involving Plan.com in challenges such as abseiling and blind-folded gorge walking, they found out first-hand the feeling of accomplishment that we want to instil in kids who have lost their self-belief, or are yet to realise what they are capable of.’

The challenges covered everything from endurance events to eating competitions. They included 1,000 miles of cycling, 100,000 Gaswork steps, the End2End mountain bike race, 66 miles of kayaking, and 216 miles of walking.

’When we sat down with plan.com and came up with the idea, we set some pretty tough challenges and some very tight deadlines,’ said Kieran.

’We didn’t think they’d agree to it.

’To see them embrace the project and go even further by setting their own challenges was an inspiration for everyone. Not only did we manage to raise an incredible amount of money, we now have over 60 people in the Isle of Man who are Mobex ambassadors. For me, that is an astonishing achievement in itself,’
