The Southern District Agricultural Show has been hailed a success, with organisers praising exhibitors, visitors and new attractions after another busy weekend at Orrisdale Farm.

Despite some rain during the two days, Southern District Agricultural Show secretary Zoe Hampton said the weather did not stop people from coming along and enjoying the annual celebration of Manx farming and rural life.

She said the event had gone ‘very well’, adding: ‘Some rain didn’t put people off. We had happy kids and loads of new exhibitors who did super well - it was just an excellent show.’

The show brought together farmers, families, exhibitors and visitors for a showcase of livestock, produce, crafts and rural traditions.

A highlight of the day was the cattle competition, which saw a strong entry of animals from across the island.

Adam Huxham, from Ballamoar Farm in Ballaugh, was crowned Supreme Champion after his cow LuLu impressed judges to take the top award.

Mr Huxham also secured the Billown Cup for the Best Pedigree Beast in the Show, the R H Gelling Cup for the Supreme Champion across all cattle sections, and the E Qualtrough Cup for the Best Beef Animal.

The Supreme Championship awards were:

  • Supreme Champion: Mr Adam Huxham
  • Reserve Supreme Champion: Mr J Q and Mr W J Callow
  • Second Reserve Champion: Mr Neil Kinvig
  • Third Reserve Champion: Mr E J and Mr F J Christian

Mr J Q and Mr J W Callow also won the Mr & Mrs N Glassey Cup for the Best Manx Bred Beast in the Cattle Section, as well as the Ballavell Cup for Reserve Beast.

Organisers thanked all exhibitors, judges, stewards, sponsors and volunteers who helped make the event possible.

The show also featured displays celebrating the island’s agricultural heritage, with visitors able to see livestock, poultry, trade stands and family activities throughout the day.
