Ten people will stand for election for the three vacant seats on Ramsey Commissioners.

The spots in the town’s north ward were left unfilled at July’s local authority general election.

Eleven people originally put their names forward for the spots ahead of the deadline for nominations on Monday evening, Robyn Spencer withdrawing from the contest the following day.

This means Adam Beighton, Green Party deputy leader Lamara Craine, Janette Ferguson, Grant Hill, Pauline Johns-Garrett, Tracy Kinrade, Stella Moss, Luke Parker, Dan Richardson and Edward Wilson will now contest the by-election which will take place on Thursday, November 25.

Mr Richardson recently hit the headlines as he is currently embroiled in a legal dispute over who owns the land on the outskirts of the town on which he has built a wooden cabin.

Town clerk Peter Whiteway said: ’It’s a lot more than we expected to see coming forward. In the summer only nine valid candidates came forward leaving us with the three vacant seats in the north ward.

’We suspected the increase in interest has been sparked by the recent House of Keys elections and therefore issues around the town have been discussed and debated more.’

A hustings meeting will be held in the town on November 19 and the commissioners are also planning to organise additional meet and greet sessions with the candidates.

A total of 1, 3623 persons are presently on the electors’ register for the Ramsey north ward. The polls at the Town Hall on Parliament Square, will be open between 8am and 8pm.

Polling cards will be issued in due course and persons wishing to exercise an absent vote should contact the town hall.

The commissioners elected will serve on the board until April 30, 2025.
