More details about the Pride festival have been announced.

The event, which will take place on Saturday, June 12, will celebrate LGBT+ people and other minorities.

A tent will be erected in Douglas’s Villa Marina Gardens - the centre of all the Pride action - and will be the setting for a range of creative activities from noon to 6pm, including art projects, craft, poetry and face-painting sessions, a ’Dress to Impress’ fashion show, bouncy castles and story times with drag act Vida LaFierce.

Later, from 7pm to 10pm, the tent becomes a youth chill-out zone, with ’meet and greet’ drag acts and a relaxation area, with support from the LGBT youth workers team.

Isle of Pride’s Luke Adebiyi said: ’We’ve been overwhelmed by the huge level of support for the Pride festival.

’This is an event which builds on and pays tribute to the past brave pioneering action of those who were challenging attitudes and lending greater visibility to the LGBT community at a time when the island’s diversity and inclusion landscape was very different from that which we all enjoy today.’

The tent is being sponsored by banking giant HSBC.

Mr Adebiyi said: ’We’re really proud to have one of the island’s leading financial institutions on board, one which actively values diversity and fosters an inclusive culture.

Jaime Amoedo, head of commercial banking, HSBC, said: ’HSBC was founded on the strength of different attributes, experiences and voices.

’The greater our empathy and diversity, the better we reflect the worlds of our customers, people and communities.

’It is fantastic to be supporting the very first Isle of Man Pride event. The bank values difference and is committed to championing the benefits of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.’

Support for the activities is being provided by volunteers from HSBC.
