A member of a local band has been entertaining people with his own songs virtually via performances online.
Terry George, 23, is guitarist and singer of the Long Tall Shakies and due to the current lockdown has been showcasing his own works through social media, the most recent being on Friday evening.
He started learning the piano during the last lockdown he spent in Bristol, before moving back to the island and since then has been penning songs to play. ’Most of the songs I played in Sound Records’ Facebook Live were my own. I’ve written loads, but I have about 40 which I would play on a set. Ideas for songs can start with an emotion, or a guitar riff. You never quite know when or where your inspiration will come from.’
He said that the current lockdown has been a chance for him to teach himself to play the keyboard thanks to someone lending him one and that he enjoys playing a set virtually. ’I much prefer playing to a crowd, but I kind of like not knowing who’s watching or how many people. It’s quite nice to see people supporting me after playing.
’It feels nice knowing that you might be entertaining people during lockdown.’
Terry said that he and his band mates will be recording music in the studio when he’s out of lockdown, working towards an album. ’I want to make the first album absolutely amazing and in the next few years play to big crowds.’
