A resident at Sunnydale Residential Home in Douglas, Moira Milne, celebrated her 100th birthday last week with a trike ride down Broadway and along the promenade.

Julie Clarke, project manager for Pearl Healthcare which owns Sunnydale, in Stanley View, said: ’This long awaited event far surpassed Moira’s expectations.’

Wrapped up well against the damp weather, Moira travelled along the promenades then past the Grandstand.

They even passed her old house which brought back lots of memories.

Julie went on: ’Moira was overcome by the trike ride, saying it was years since she had been on a bike and for a while she was totally speechless.’

The trike excursion was followed by a birthday party at Sunnydale, on Broadway, where the Mayor of Douglas, Jon Joughin, joined with Moira’s friends and family to help her celebrate.

The church is important to Moira and the party was attended by many from her congregation.

The top table was set up with Moira at the head and speeches were made by the mayor and Caroline Hughes, manager of Sunnydale, before the present opening, a buffet tea and drinks, followed by music by Dick Cain.

Julie said: ’Family, friends, Moira and staff danced the afternoon away and Moira was the life and soul of the party.’

At the end of her very special day, Moira said: ’Every hour today has brought something new and exciting.

’It has been the best day ever, I’m very lucky.’
