Actors and singers, preferably ones that are green, hideous and terrifying to look at, are being encouraged to try out for a forthcoming musical production.
The Douglas Choral Union are getting ready to host their stage musical version of the film Shrek in February, 2021, at the Gaiety Theatre, and are holding a weekend of auditions to find a cast.
Auditions are set to be held in mid-August, with a deadline of Friday, July 31 to register for an audition slot, and the producers of the show are searching for an entirely local cast and crew to bring the famous tale to life.
’We are looking for all the parts for the play,’ said Jude Fullerton, from Douglas Choral Union.
’That basically means all the main parts and lead roles of the film, from Shrek to Princess Fiona and the Donkey.
’We are also looking for ensemble members and some fairy tale characters too. Anyone above the age of 16 is welcome to come along and have a go.’
Award-winning actor David Dawson has been lined up to direct the play and Liz Dixon has been named as the show’s musical director
Prior to the auditioning process, the choral union are holding a day of dance and singing workshops, led by a West End star.
Manx actor and singer Perry O’Dea has worked on some of the biggest shows on the London stages, including Oklahoma, Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Blood Brothers and Grease, as well as being part of the cast of ’Young Frankenstein’, which was nominated for an Olivier award in 2018. He also works as a fitness trainer and a ballroom dance trainer,
He returned to the Isle of Man shortly after the enforced closures of all theatres and has joined the production team of Shrek as choreographer.
Perry will hold a workshop at the Onchan Methodist Hall on Monday, July 20, from 8pm for people who are interested in trying out for the play.
