Described as ’merciless, rabble-rousing bohemians’, a band that plays gypsy-funk klezmer music has been announced as the headliners for one of the island’s summer festivals.
UK festival group Klonk are to appear at next year’s Great Manx Shindig festival, organised by the team behind Flo the coffee van.
The Yorkshire-based band, who promise to create a ’gypsy dance riot, guaranteed to excite you instantly into a foot-stomping frenzy’, are an early addition to the line up, and bring with them a wealth of experience from performing at some of the UK’s biggest festivals, such as Beatherder, Boomtown and the Bearded Theory festival.
They join a line-up of local groups, including Loose Crew, The Ballaghs, Truman Falls, Jeff Jepson, The Fecktones, Poster Girl and Rhiannon Jade, with more to be announced later.
Organiser Annabel Gentry said: ’We had to come back and organise another Shindig with so many asking us to do it again, plus with the fabulous landowner encouraging us.
’So here we are again, promising bigger and better things, and even maybe some sunshine, and with the chance to showcase some more island talent in a fluffy field in Santon.’
Tickets are £40 for adults, £20 for children and a £5 vehicle pass which includes camping and a workshop programme.
Klonk are being brought over with help from the Isle of Man Steampacket.
