Another one bites the dust.

Another hotel which formed part of the impressive Victorian sweep of Port Erin promenade is being demolished.

Demolition of The Grosvenor Hotel and next door York House began recently and will be completed soon, as the road closure order for the area surrounding the buildings is in operation to October 15.

There is no information about what comes next.

Redmayne Investments Ltd was granted planning approval in 2014 to demolish the Grosvenor Hotel and replace it with a block of 15 flats over seven floors for either residential or tourist use.

However the hotel was subsequently bought - with York House - by Grosvenor Holdings, based at Finch Road, Douglas.

Port Erin Commissioners’ clerk Jason Roberts said that the local authority has not been contacted by the new owner and does not know what their plans are for the site.

Port Erin’s upper promenade has underdone major transformation over the past 15 years.

The Port Erin Royal Hotel, disused since 2008 but once an entertainment hub in the south, was demolished last year to make way for flats.

The Ocean Castle (and formerly Hydro) was knocked down in 2010.

And the Imperial was demolished in 2007 and redeveloped as Imperial Heights flats.
