A popular TT course landmark is due for a facelift after Douglas Council considered serving an improvement notice on the owners.

The art deco former newsagent’s building next to the Quarter Bridge roundabout has been a popular TT viewing spot for years and councillors want its appearance to be improved in time for this year’s event.

Planning permission was granted a year ago for improvements to be done to the building which was registered in the early 1990s.

Councillor Betty Quirk said the building, in recent years a tanning studio, was unsightly.

’Rendering is coming off and there has been a drop-off in progress,’ she said.

Councillor Ritchie McNicholl said there was an agreed schedule and front and side walls would be repainted by the end of May.

’A lot has happened but the weather was against them,’ he said.
