Sleight of hand, levitation a mind-reading dragon and some classic card tricks will be on display later this month, courtesy of the Magicians of Mann.
The Evening of Magic, held at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday, October 27, from 7.30pm, will also decide which local trickster walks away with the coveted title of ’Magician of Mann.
Eight magicians will appear on the night, including Keith Greenland, Chris Burns, Fredrik Stromberg, Michael Kelly and the show producer Lexi Dernie.
Also on stage will be the current Magician of Mann Juan Corrin and Giles Beaumont, who won the title of ’Next Big Thing at this year’s youth talent competition, held at the Gaiety Theatre in February. He will be appearing alongside his mum Rosalie.
Lexi said that the show will feature a mix of tricks and skills, and that there will be something for all the family to enjoy
’We will have all sorts of magic on show on the night
We put a show on each year,’ said Lexi.
’Each of our magicians do something different.
’Chris Burns is very well known for doing his big illusions, along with a few fun tricks too.
’Also, during the show we decide who is going to be named Magician of Mann. There are three judges who sit in the crowd throughout the show and they decide afterwards who will be named.
’We’ll present the winning magician with the trophy at the end of the night.
’Juan Corrin is our reigning Magician of Mann, but he can’t compete this year. We have a rule that the same Magician can’t be named two tears running, so he’ll be there to hand over his trophy.
’He does a lot of parlour magic, tricks and illusions that can be performed close -up to people, like card or rope tricks, but can also be performed on the big stage too.
’Giles will have dippy the dragon on stage with him, which all the kids will love.
’ The show this year is family friendly, full of fun and mystery and, this year for the first time, we even have table magic by Daniel Bonett, in the Athol bar during the interval.’
Tickets for the show, which is held in aid of the Friends of the Peel Centenary Centre, are priced £10 for adults and £5 for children, available from Celtic Gold, Peter Norris Music, Shakti Man and Thompson Travel in Port Erin, or online from centenarycentre.com.
