A bear hunt is under way in the Isle of Man to keep children entertained during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Isle of Man Newspapers launched the Manx Bear Hunt at the start of April.

And since then teddies have appeared in the windows of homes and businesses across the island for children to spot.

The Manx Bear Hunt follows New Zealand’s lead with the idea being inspired by the children’s book ’We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by UK author Michael Rosen.

The hunt has spread across the globe with the motto becoming ’we’re not scared’ - a quote from the 1986 book that has resonated with millions.

In Port St Mary, Discover Diving’s shop window now features a large teddy named Dave wearing a snorkel and mask.

And over the road, Corlett Bolton & Co, Cheer Bear, one of the original Care Bear characters has donned a lawyer’s wig.

Billy Bear, one of the Butlins mascots, is looking out from the window of his home in Castletown Road, Port Erin.

And the porch of a home in nearby Bridson Street has been taken over by a line of teddies singing their own version of a Bee Gees classic, now named ’Stayin’ Inside’.

In Douglas, Manx Mencap’s shop window in Walpole Avenue has been given over to a large number of bears of all shapes and sizes.
