Head down to Sound Records this week and you may be able to pick up the latest release from one of the island’s favourite psychedelic electro-rock groups.

Swirling three-piece Baad Acid released their long-awaited four-track mini-album ’Aboo/Sound’ recently.

Originally recorded in 2018, the EP contains two already-available songs, ’Copper and Zinc’ and Ground Luminosity’, previously available as singles, along with two more tracks, Vimana’ and ’Capgras Delusion’, which are exclusive to the EP.

The songs feature the textured, multi-layered sound that Baad Acid fans will be very familiar with, complete with bassist and singer Jamie Higson consistent bass lines underpinning the hypnotic, echoing guitars of Leigh Mitchell, with the octopus-like efforts of keyboardist and drummer Brian Brough, playing both simultaneously and providing both the beat and the melodies.

The end result is something that has so many elements, ranging from 80s synth pop, post-punk and new wave, with Jamie’s voice containing echoes of Joy Division and the Editors.

While ’Aboo/Sound’ is available as a downloadable digital album, you should really take the time and make the effort to get hold of the gorgeous 12" vinyl EP, currently hanging resplendent on the Sound shelves.

’It was recorded in 2018 at Ballagroove Recording Studio with funding from the Arts Council, and finished in 2019,’ said Brian.

’The manufacture of the record was also funded in part by the Arts Council in part, with the remainder being sourced through a crowdfunding campaign.

’The record was made available to order online at our bandcamp page a couple of weeks ago, and is now also available to buy at Sound Records.

’The proceeds from sales of this EP will go directly into manufacturing the next release, which will feature four more tracks that were recorded at the same time as these four.

’The cover was designed by me and is a sinister-looking photo of our very own Corrin’s Folly!

’We’re very happy that this record is finally available for people to buy.’

The vinyl record and digital download of ’Aboo/Sound’ can also be bought online for a crisp tenner from www.baadacidband.bandcamp.com
