Next week sees the return of a popular musical duo to the island.

Former chart toppers the Proclaimers will take to the stage at the Royal Hall stage at the Villa Marina next Wednesday, August 22, making their first appearance on the island in more that 10 years.

The Scottish duo, twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid, are famously known for their hit singles ’Letter From America’ and the wedding dance floor filler ’(I’m Gonna Be) 500 miles’, which were surprise hits in the late 1980s, and send their albums, 1987’s ’This Is the Story’ and its follow up, their break-through release ’Sunshine on Leith’ to the upper reaches of the album charts .

This year marks the 3oth anniversary of the release of Sunshine on Leith, which has inspired both a hit stage play and a film in recent years.

They show no signs of slowing down and, earlier this month, the brothers released their 11th studio album, entitled Angry Cyclist, and are currently touring across Europe.

Even though the big hits are guaranteed to get the crowds singing in unison, there may be some unfamiliar suprises in there too which may prove just as enduring.

Support comes from the rising UK solo country folk star Daniel Meades, who last year released his fourth album, Shooting Stars and Tiny Tears, to positive reviews.

Tickets are £28, and are available from the Villa Marina box office on 600555, or online from villagaeity.com
