Plans are hotting up for a big summer street party in the west of the island this weekend.

The organisers of the Peel Carnival, which takes place on Sunday, August 2, on the promenade, have announced that the world famous Purple Helmets are to make an appearance during the day.

They will perform at the Creg Malin coach park at 4pm, after the end of the grand parade and the prize presentations have taken place.

The madcap daredevil stunt team last appeared at the carnival seven years ago, and the organisers are delighted to be welcoming them back.

Elsewhere on the day, the organisers of the carnival will pay tribute to the musician and sound engineer Anglin Buttimore, who died earlier this year.

The stage at the centre of the promenade will now be named the Anglin Buttimore Stage and will be officially opened on Peel promenade, opposite the former Raglan hotel site, at midday by Anglin’s wife Jen and sons Dan and William.

Anglin was a keen supporter of the carnival and regularly helped out with organising the sound across the many music stages on the day, and his presence this year will be greatly missed by all.

The stage will now be situated on the beach side of the promenade and will host music through the evening.

Dan will play a selection of songs, and will be followed by the Birds and the Beards, Symbollix and Mad Daddy.

Over on the Spit Corner stage, Skeddan Jiarg will open the entertainment at midday, followed by the Roc Vannin choir and Retrospect playing up to the start of the main parade.

Loose Crew will play later on in the afternoon, from 2.30pm, followed by the local folk pop group Biskee Brisht.

There will be two further stages, with The Ellan Vannin pipe band and the Ramsey Town Silver Band playing outside the Marine Hotel.

The Manx Jazz Aces will be performing outside the House of Manannan as the grand parade assembles.
