One of the island’s community choirs is to hold a seasonal concer this weekend.

The Ramsey Choral Society is to team up with the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra and a host of local singers and musicians to present their winter concert.

Directed by Nigel Harrison, the choir will perform an eclectic mix of music from Handel’s Zadok the Priest to Elgar, Mozart, Gilbert and Sullivan and Gershwin, as well a as piece of music never performed in the island before.

’We are privileged to have Karen Elliott and Matt Quinn singing some duets with piano accompaniment as well as singing the soprano and baritone parts in a wonderful work, Lars-Erik Larsson’s lyrical suite "A God Disguised", that has never before been heard in the island,’ said Nigel.

’Forming the main part of the second half of the concert, this beautiful six movement piece for choir, orchestra and soloists also employs a narrator, Chris Caine, to tell the story in the poetry of Hjalmar Gullberg between the movements.’

The concert will also feature the guest musicians, Chris Sullivan, who will be playing the second movement of Mozart’s clarinet concerto, pianist John Elliott and harpist Christa McCartney,who will be playing and singing a couple of Manx folk songs.

The concert will also hear Gilbert and Sullivan’s famous ’Policeman’s Song’ from the musical Pirates of Penzance, which will feature local singer Geoff Collier performing the role of the inimitable Sergeant of Police.

The concert takes place on Saturday, January 26, from 7.30pm at St Paul’s Church, Ramsey. Tickets are £7, including refreshments, available on the door.
