Peel threw itself into the summer and celebrated with what has been described as probably its biggest carnival yet.

Thousands of people flocked to the west of the island and basked in the sun as more than 100 people paraded along the promenade in fancy dress and on top of fantastically-decorated floats.

Pick of the bunch was the lengthy fishing boat which travelled ahead of a sea full of sea creatures, created by the dance group Skeddan Jiarg.

Featuring more than 25 dancers and musicians, the float won the coveted titles of best float and also the best entry in the carnival.

They were followed by a fellow bunch of creatures from the deep, the Eastham family and friends, with their float also sporting a motley collection of mermaids, jelly fish and Neptune himself, sporting a questionable pair of trousers.

The parade also featured an impressive display from the Oie Voaldyn performers, who put some of their spectacular costumes on show for the first time, after this year’s show was cancelled due to the lockdown.

The huge Moddey Dhoo walking puppet and the seven foot Fynoderee drew cheers and applause from the crowd.

Elsewhere the crowds were entertained throughout the day by Perree Bane and Skeddan Jiarg, and there were three stages of music, which featured a variety of rock and pop bands, such as Biskee Brisht, Loose Crew and Retrospect.

Symbollix, Clash Vooar and Mad Daddy played on the newly-christened Anglin Buttimore stage, midway along the promenade.
