With the property market booming and many considering a move, we asked the public what they would consider to be their dream house.
Earlier in the year, the lockdown period involved many days spent at home for us all -and we found that many came away from that experience with a renewed appreciation for where they currently live.
Dave and Suzanne Ali say that their dream home is what they already have in Port Erin. They appreciate their view onto a bowling green and Bradda Head in the distance.
Important to them is also the convenience of the shops and the short walk down the road to the beach where they can take their grandchildren. Dave said that: ’As long as you can get to the pub, it’s alright.’
Margaret and Wilf Lowther are also happy to be where they are in Douglas, especially during the lockdown period.
Wilf said: ’Lockdown affected a lot of people, but because we had a garden it made life easier. I think we’re lucky here compared to the UK.’
As far as their dream house, Margaret says: ’Had you asked that question 20 years ago I would have said a five-bedroom place, but not now. Now the ideal situation would be a villa in the sun somewhere, but somewhere a bit smaller.’
Belinda Oates from Crosby says she would like a bigger house, as ’it can get a bit squashed’ when all of her seven grandchildren come over on a Saturday.
’It definitely would have to be in the countryside, south-facing while catching lots of sun, or have a sea view.’
Roy Brook thinks that the most important thing is for his dream house to face the sun.
The Douglas man said: ’Just very simple: Garden, barbecue, westerly-facing townhouse on a hill.’
His daughter, Molly Spiers, says she is not as picky and that the lockdown was manageable in her house. She said: ’I live on an estate at the moment and I love that -I love having all the people around.
’My husband’s dream house varies differently to mine, he would like a house in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours.’
