A show-stopping musical production of a classic TV show scooped several of the top prizes in a national theatre awards presentation.

The musical production of the Addams Family, staged by the local amateur dramatics company Centre Stage Productions, were handed six awards in the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) during last week’s prize giving ceremony in Blackpool.

In amongst the haul of trophies, lead actor David Dawson won the prize titles of Best Actor in a Musical and the Cliff Reagan trophy, a special award given for an outstanding area or contribution in a production, for his hilarious and energetic performance as family patriarch Gomez Addams.

The show’s director, Val Cowley, also won the top award for Best Director for a Musical.

The company also won the awards for Best Production, Overall Best Production and Best Staged and Costume.

Centre Stage hosted The Addams Family- A New Musical at the Gaiety Theatre during October last year.

Joining David in the cast was Kate Stobart as Morticia Addams, who was nominated for the role of Best Actress in a Musical, along with Shay Marsden and Rio Osbourne as Wednesday and Pugsley.

The company were also nominated for best choreography, music and ensemble.

Director Val said that the awards were a testament to the hard work and professionalism of the team as a whole.

’I am delighted that the hard work from the cast, crew, production team and committee has been recognised by NODA,’ said Val.

’A huge amount of effort goes on behind the scenes to produce our shows and I would like to thank everybody for their hard work and commitment, especially from the talented youth involved.’

There were also awards given to Manx actress Dandi Dancox, who won the prize for bet supporting actress for her portrayal of Eponine and musical director Julian Powers for the Manx Operatic Society’s producton of Les Miserables.
