Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney arrived in style to open the 6th CAMRA Isle of Man beer and cider festival at the Villa Marina on Thursday.
His mode of transport was the historic Okell’s double-decker horse tram, carrying a cask of newly-brewed Okell’s Triskellion ale.
Sir Richard drew the first pint of ’Pullyman’s All Day Pale Ale’, a beer brewed especially for this year’s festival good cause, the Alzheimer’s Society, by the Hooded Ram Brewing Company.
Twenty pence from each pint sold will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.
During the festival more than 12,000 pints of real ales, perries and ciders were consumed by more than 3,000 festival-goers, 10 per cent of whom were visitors from the UK.
Festival organiser Roger Cave told us: ’Many of the visitors came volunteering their services to staff the reception areas, glass and token dispense and of course, the bars.
’As well as the tantalising range of beers, ciders and fruit wines on offer, musical entertainment was provided on Friday and Saturday nights.
’We would like to thank the Department of Economic Development, main sponsors Okell’s, Graylaw Freight, the Villa Marina, the Hooded Ram Brewing Company and of course the members of CAMRA, all of whom are volunteers, providing their many and varied skills for free.’
