It took a forklift to help transport a pumpkin of epic proportions to a Manx produce show.
The giant entry from John Crebbin, of Greeba, also required three men to carry the whopper from his van into the Methodist hall, where the St John’s Produce Show was held.
’It was so big, they couldn’t put it on the table for the class,’ show chairman Sue Staley said.
Although huge, the chairman doesn’t believe it has been the biggest pumpkin the show has seen.
Another mighty pumpkin was brought in by Harold Leece, which featured alongside 560 other entries at the event. ’It wasn’t as big, but it was equally as impressive,’ she added.
This year’s colourful entries were carefully judged by Jenny Devereau, Anne Duggan, Shirley Quaye, Nick Watson, Peter Quaye, Callum Staley and Eileen Ranson.
Manx Diabetic Group secretary Janet Clarkson and John Houghton from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Isle of Man decided the overall best exhibit was a display of three gladioli by show regular Mike Garrett.
The two causes received the proceeds following an auction of the exhibits by Lee Cain.
For a list of the winners see Tuesday’s Isle of Man Examiner.
