Competitors in the 48th annual tin bath championship are set to make a splash.
The competition takes place in the town’s middle harbour today (Saturday) from 2.30pm and has attracted 60 entries from around the world.
Some 45 men and 28 women have signed up for the tin bath races along with 25 teams in the six-person snake races.
With last year’s men’s champion Nick Thornley not taking part this year, the favourites to win this year include the 46th winner Dave Watt and the 45th winner Tom Perry.
In the women’s tin bath competiton, Erika Cowen will be going for her 21st consecutive win.
Social Network is hoping to retain its title in the team race.
Teams in this year’s snake race include Vagabond Ladies, Isle of Man Newspapers and Blood, Sweat & Beers.
A prize of £250, sponsored by Pokerstars Helping Hands, will be given to the winner of the sure to be entertaining ’man-made flight’ competition which sees entrants launch themselves off the jetty.
The prize will go to the winner’s chosen charity.
Compere for the afternoon will be Phil Taubman MBE.
Overseeing the events will be Port St Mary Lifeboat.
Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band will play from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
An after party featuring live music will be held in Market Square, from 4pm until late, with proceeds going to the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group and Mannin Cancers.
The event is run by the Castletown Ale Drinkers Society.
This year’s championship is sponsored by 3fm, Tower Insurance, Pokerstars and Heron & Brearley.
