The Castletown Ale Drinkers Society (CADS) have attended a UK festival, organised by TV and radio presenter Chris Evans, to run the tin bath racing.
The three-day festival, Carfest, was the brainchild of BBC Radio 2 presenter Evans, and was held at Bolesworth Estate, Cheshire, featuring musical artists including Busted, Deacon Blue, Manic Street Preachers, Texas and The Vamps
We previously reported how the group was approached by the Carfest organisers to see if we could help run tin bath racing in the estate’s lake..
Boris Kitching, from CADS, said: ’We took over 30 tin baths, a rescue boat, 10 organisers/ safety crew, an ex world tin bath champion ( Nick Cain ) and a lady competitor (Breeshey Kermode).
’Chris Evans came down to watch but wouldn’t get in a bath, we presented him with an honorary CADS shirt.
’We had such a good response to the weekends races the organisers have invited us back to next year’s event.
’We took brochures provided by visitisleofman.com with Okells Beer and Bushys Beer providing prizes to our daily champions.
’The Friday was more of a demonstration day and the weather wasn’t good with only thre competitors but we were taking lots of bookings for the Saturday and Sunday races.
’We spent the rest of the time promoting all things Manx handing out brochures and stickers etc.
’We had big crowds and lots of interest in the tin baths and the island as a whole.
’On the Sunday we were so over-subscribed we had to hold four extra races and could have held more.
’At the end we had a race of champions from the weekend which was won by Johan Hoving who won a champions CADS T-shirt and couple bottles if Bushys and Okells Beers
’It was such a good weekend so many happy faces in the baths and in the crowds with lots of family support.’
