Davey Todd, fastest newcomer at the 2018 TT and second fastest in history, has joined up with Danny Webb and Daley Mathison at Penz13.com for this year’s event.
Todd claimed top-10 finishes in the Superstock and Senior races at last year’s meeting and was the winner of the RST Star of Tomorrow award.
Germany-based outfit Penz13.com has confirmed a three-man team for the TT plus other international road races. Former Moto3 GP racer Webb, who joined the team in 2016, will campaign a Yamaha R1 in the Isle of Man while Mathison and Todd will ride BMW S1000RRs in the Superstock, Superbike and Senior races.
Stockton-on-Tees rider Mathison claimed 11th and 13th place finishes in the Superstock and Senior respectively last year, plus he achieved a third consecutive podium in the TT Zero electric race.
As well as the international road races, the team will also link up with WEPOL Racing in the IRRC Endurance World Championship.
Todd was delighted to join up with Penz13.com, saying: ’I’m super happy to be riding for the Penz squad after successful outings in Frohburg and Macau in 2018.
’I have great confidence in the team’s abilities so I’m sure we can improve and make progress this year.
’I can’t wait to get back to the Isle of Man TT, but this time on the BMW Superstock and Superbike.’
Likewise, Mathison was also hopeful of building upon last year’s efforts: ’Following our success in Frohburg and Macau last year, I am delighted to have the opportunity to ride for Rico Penzkofer’s team at the internationals this year.
’The team’s machinery and experience speaks for itself. Since joining the team in 2018 this feels like the right path for me. Working with the team is like a family affair and I’m genuinely looking forward to swing my leg over the Penz Superbike.
’Danny showed how fast that bike really is and I do hope that I will grow in confidence and deliver results throughout the year.
’Obviously the TT is the biggest event, and with the North West in preparation for it, I should be able to build up the speed once more and target solid top-10 finishes, if not even more.
’Having Danny and Davey as team-mates will give me the right surrounding and motivation and there won’t be any excuses left. I’m really looking forward to race with them and the team.’
Webb is targeting top-10 finishes at the TT: ’I’m facing a busy 2019 season with races planned on short circuits and on the roads, but I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead of me.
’The team has given me a good training programme through the winter and I will be going to Spain to work on my fitness and get some track time.
’I’m looking for top-10 finishes at the TT and targeting a podium at Macau. I can’t wait to get the season started and I’m grateful for the opportunity for the next two years.’
