Tonight’s Steam Packet sailing to Heysham could be disrupted or cancelled.

Gales are forecast tonight (Sunday) as Storm Atiyah sweeps across the British Isles.

The 8pm crossing to Heysham and the return at 2.15am are at risk.

The Steam Packet says a final decision will be made by 5.30pm today.

The Ben-my-Chree arrived at Douglas at 6.19 this morning.

It departed from Douglas at 7.54am with a return from Heysham scheduled at 2.30pm.

The Met Office at Ronaldsway issued this forecast this morning (Sunday): ’A day of sunshine and blustery showers, some of which may be heavy with hail mixed in. Strong to gale force, and gusty, southwesterly wind. The temperature starting at around 8°C but falling a little through the day. Showers may become more organised this evening with the wind turning northwest and remaining strong to gale force.’

And the outlook: ’Into Monday, sunshine and isolated showers. Strong to gale force northwest winds slowly easing through the day.

’Rain overnight into Tuesday as the winds strengthen to gale force once more from the south or southwest. Rain or showers for the rest of the day. Temperatures up to 12°C.’
