After a year like no other, one of the island’s town bands is to see 2020 off in style with a gala concert this weekend.
The long-running Town band are teaming up with Event Lighting Services to create a thrilling show which will feature a range of well-known music taken from popular stage shows and famous film scores, complete with a stunning light show.
They will be joined by guest local musicians Matt Creer and Kristene Sutcliffe to perform songs taken from the James Bond films, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and many more, alongside music by groups such as ABBA.
The town band will also be joined by the young singers of the Platform Theatre School Vocal Ensemble and members of the Douglas Town Training Band.
The band is unable to welcome UK guests because of the border restrictions.
The concert is a reprise of the Douglas town band’s successful ’Lights, Camera, Action!’, held in 2017.
’We are so privileged to be able to host concerts in our very musical isle and especially so with our event partners Event Lighting Services,’ said band leader and musical director Ken Mitchell.
’This promises to be another feast of sound, lights and musical wonder with favourites for everyone.’
Ken said that the concert will help the band members put the tumultuous events of 2020 behind them and hopefully look forward to next year where, once again they will be able to welcome guest musicians from the UK again.
’The band members feel incredibly fortunate to be able to take part in events such as this, considering many brass bands and other entertainers around the UK and the world are still not able to because of the pandemic,’ said Ken.
’We are very much looking forward to hosting this event and performing alongside such wonderful Manx talent.’
Tickets for ’Lights Camera Action 2’ are priced at £10 for an adult and £6 for concessions, with family tick £20, available by phoning or texting 324394, getting touch through the Douglas Town band Facebook page or emailing secretary@ douglastownband.org.
