The Isle of Man TT is due to make its mark on the Bollywood scene.
Mumbai-born movie star and producer John Abraham confirmed that he will be shooting a feature film on the island’s TT beginning this summer.
A fan of the sport himself, John called the island ’the Mecca of motorcycling’, adding that it’s ’why we’re making this film happen’.
The new film - which is yet to receive a title - could possibly reach at least 250 million to 300 million people, the producer said. It will initially show the Southern 100 races in July, the Manx Grand Prix, Classic TT and potentially use footage of the island during TT week.
’I’ve been to the island and have been a huge fan of the races there,’ he told iomtt.com. ’It [the film] will be the first of its kind in India.
’It’s something that I really want to give to people who are passionate about motorcycling.’
Peter Duke, chief executive at Duke Marketing Ltd in Douglas, has been advising John along with his international media colleague, Dave Bignell, on the producer’s plans for three years.
’We are delighted that it will start shooting this year and will feature the Isle of Man so prominently,’ he said. ’It’s a feature film with action sequences, not a documentary, so it’s not another "TT Closer To The Edge". Think more "Days of Thunder", all produced to entertain the world’s biggest cinema audience.
’The most successful film with Isle of Man content, Waking Ned, was seen by less than 10 million people in cinemas worldwide. This one will sell 50 million seats even if it’s a flop and is fully expected to be seen by over 250 million people in India and over 30 million outside India. And then it will go out on TV where the Indian equivalent of Netflix has 113 million subscribers!
’John is a real biking enthusiast who has a good understanding and massive respect for the TT and the unique heritage of road racing, so we’re very proud to be assisting him put the Isle of Man on the map in places where it is almost totally unknown.’
