Ramsey Commissioners have confirmed it is to host a three- night music event during the TT.

The event is designed to attract more visitors to the north and for those who travel to the town for the TT racing, and residents, to stay for those evenings.

The ’Sprintfest’ event will begin on Mad Sunday, June 2, and run through to Tuesday, to coincide with the Ramsey Sprint on Mooragh Promenade.

Bands will take to the stage for the three nights beginning at 7.30pm until 10.30pm in the town’s Market Square. The square boasts at least two drinking establishments with others close by and a variety of food options will be available for residents and tourists alike with businesses providing the choice.

The Commissioners have committed £15,000 to the event, in a bid to boost business in the town, and have been supported by the Department for Enterprise and other sponsors.

Commissioner Juan McGuinness said he was ’super excited’ about the event, with him having said during last year’s TT that Ramsey needs its own TT events.

He added: ’We’ve got an awful lot of campsites and residents in the north of the island and we just want to provide that option, that you don’t have to traipse into Douglas.’

When the matter was discussed by the town’s commissioners in March, it was confirmed that during the events, there will be no parking in the square, however there will be parking for those attending St Paul’s Church on Sunday morning.

The Ramsey Chamber of Commerce also supported the event at its April meeting.

A spokesman for the Commissioner said that as this is the first time the event is being organised, they hope it will be a success and that it will be ’able to grow each year’.

Isle of Man Newspapers will have more information on this and other TT events in the coming weeks.
