The island is going to be battered by winds of 70mph today.
The Met Office has issued amber weather warnings for coastal overtopping and severe gale with gusts to storm force.
Storm Brendan is likely to cause some damage to buildings and significant amounts of debris from trees, the police have warned.'Heavy rain will accompany the severe winds, making driving conditions treacherous,' a spokesman said.'We would advise that you only travel if absolutely necessary, stay warm and dry indoors with a proper brew, and keep yourselves safe.'The forecast:
Dry to start, then rain arriving late morning turning heavy in the afternoon. Rain clearing early evening with isolated showers following. South to southeast winds quickly increasing to severe gale force, with gusts widely 60-70 mph, causing some damage and disruption to travel. Wind starting to decrease and veer more southwesterly from around 4pm. Significant coastal overtopping around the high tides at 1pm and again at 1:30am in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Top temperature today 9°C.
Into tomorrow, mainly dry to start, then rain in the afternoon that may be heavy at times, clearing in the evening. Still quite windy with a strong to gale force mainly south to southwest wind with a top temperature of 8°C.
On Wednesday much drier and brighter with fairly strong southwest winds and a top temperature of 8°C.
