Tynwald agreed the sale of this building in Douglas, as part of a deal to save for the nation Castletown’s old police station.
Number 6 Kingswood Grove was purchased as the base for the Centre for Manx Studies in 1992.But it has been vacant and simply used for storage since that organisation moved to the Nunnery.
Now Tynwald has agreed for the sale of the building by Manx National Heritage trustees. An offer has been received, pending the decision of Tynwald.
Department for Enterprise political member Rob Callister MHK explained that MNH did not see it as a heritage asset and it would require considerable investment to upgrade.
He explained that the proceeds of the sale, now expected to be in the region of £135,500, will be set against the transfer of Castletown’s historic police station to the trust.
The remaining £89,500 will come from the trust’s charitable funds.
A mid-terrace, four-storey building, 6 Kingswood Grove had been on the market with Crystals for £159,000.
