Today is our National Day.

The island’s politicians will gather in St John’s for the annual open-air event at which new laws are promulgated.

It’s also a chance for people to present a petition for redress of grievance to the court when they see shortcomings in the law.

They aren’t always taken up by politicians but it is an opportunity to publicise causes or perceived injustices.

â??The ceremony begins officially around 9.45am when the participants in the parade assemble at St John’s School ready to march up to line the processional way.

The Lieutenant Governor arrives just after 10.30am and receives the Royal Salute and inspects the Guard of Honour before laying a wreath on the War Memorial.

The service in St John’s Chapel begins at 11am following the Order of Service.

Following the service the outdoor part of the ceremony begins with processions to Tynwald Hill

During the ceremony on the Hill the Acts are promulgated,

Coroners are sworn in and there is an opportunity to present Petitions for Redress.

Those assembled then process back to the church for a sitting of Tynwald, during which the Acts are captioned and the Tynwald Honour will be presented to the founder of Beach Buddies, Bill Dale BEM.
