The architect of the new biosphere global communications strategy is to deliver a talk in the island later this month.

Meriem Bouamrane, a programme specialist with the Unesco Man and the Biosphere Programme since 2001, will speak on the island’s biosphere status and how residents can become actively engaged with it.

Ms Bouamrane is an environmental economist and a specialist in the division of ecological and earth sciences, as well as being the coordinator of EuroMAB Network, the oldest and largest network of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves which includes 52 countries from around the globe.

Environmental economics is a sub-field of economics which seeks to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability.

She is also responsible for research and training programmes on access and use of biodiversity, for example, using reserves as research sites.

Ms Bouamrane is also involved in several research programmes on resilience of socio-ecological systems and participatory methodology.

The talk is being held at the Manx Museum in Douglas at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 31.

It is due to last about 45 minutes and will be followed by a question and answer session.

People wishing to attend must book tickets through www.eventbrite.co.uk.
