Love was certainly in the air at the Beaconsfield Activities and Friendship Group, which gathered together on Valentine’s Day.

Members of the recently-formed social group indulged in a number of chocolates and cakes shaped as love-hearts during their meet-up on Wednesday.

Mary Koster-Saealle, a resident at Beaconsfield Residential Home, helped set up the group in January and has organised the events along with events manager Ellan Scott.

Mary, who classes herself as a ’romantic’, said: ’It was a fine day sharing Valentine’s with friends.

’We sang songs, had tray bakes in with cookies, muffins and little Victoria sponges that were cut into hearts with jam and cream - just tiny ones!

’Someone had brought in a Cadbury’s Milk Tray and Roses and another had brought in a tin of short bread, which we shared while having a chat with everyone.

’As it was also Ash Wednesday, we read out a story about how Jesus went into the desert and then we sang "Forty Days and Forty Nights".

’There was a also a request to sing "Ellan Vannin".

’Chocolates were handed out right until the end, but I said "I cannot eat any more, not until Easter!"’ she said.

Members of the public are welcome to join their next meeting on February 28, which will take place at 2pm at the residential home on The Close, Jurby Road, Ramsey.
