Calling all keen growers. The countdown is on for one of the highlights in the Isle of Man’s rural calendar, the St John’s Produce Show.
There will be a huge variety of produce on display with classes for vegetables, jams and pickles, confectionery, baked goods, flowers, art and crafts and photography.
The show takes place at St John’s Methodist Hall on Saturday September 7 and all funds raised will go towards Manx Diabetic Group Monitors4Kids and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Isle of Man.
Following the show is the evening event at 7pm when the trophies will be presented by Janet Clarkson from Monitors4Kids and John Houghton from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Isle of Man ahead of the very popular auction of produce at 7.30pm.
Dandara, sponsoring the show for the 12th year, and Ellan Vannin Fuels will pay for the cost of engraving trophies and providing rosettes for the winning exhibitors.
St John’s Produce Show committee chairman, Sue Staley, said: ’We’re thrilled to have the backing Ellan Vannin Fuels and of Dandara once again.
’There’s no doubt that its support has helped the event to grow and flourish over the years.
’Although the show has been running for more than 70 years, it seems to get bigger and better every year.
’If you would like a schedule of classes please email [email protected] or call our secretary, John Kneen on 801467.
’We’re also are on the lookout for volunteers to help out on the day, to serve refreshments, sell raffle tickets, help run the auction and more - you name it and there is a job with your name on. Anyone who can offer their help can call or text me on 436482.’
