Shooting has been taking place around the island for a new short film.
’Invader’s Song’ is an ambitious short film, told entirely in Manx and Norse, set 1,000 ago, which tells the story of a young girl who learns a Viking song which has the power to lure cattle to her.
The film stars Lord Of The Rings star and island resident John Rhys Davies, and features a very young local actor in her debut role - Amy Gravestock, 12, who won this year’s next Big Thing Award in the Isle of Man in February.
Amy plays Drena, the girl who learns the mysterious melody, and John plays her father.
Producer Alex Newland was full of priase for Amy in her first filming role, saying that he thinks that the island has found a new star.
’She was incredible to work with,’ he said.
’She has such amazing expressions, and her face was just full of conflicting emotions, all of them told through her eyes. She was so confident and mature.
’John loved working with her, and was full of great advice.’
Filming took place at various locations around the island, including the Viking longhouse at Ard Whallin.
’Invader’s Song’ won the ’Pitch Fest’ section of the Isle of Man Film Festival, alongside 15 other projects, winning funding of up to £7,500.
The filming was supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council, the Isle of Man Film Festival and Culture Vannin
