A TT fan from Merseyside died due to severe head injuries following a crash on the Mountain Road, an inquest has heard.
On May 28, 56-year-old James Karl Gilmour who was visiting from Prenton died in the emergency department at Noble’s Hospital following a three-vehicle crash that same day.
The accident took place between the Creg ny Baa and Brandish corner at 11.20am.
Coroner of inquests, John Needham, opened an inquest into Mr Gilmour’s death on Tuesday.
He gave the cause of death as ’massive craniocerebral trauma’ which Mr Gilmour sustained after colliding with the rear of a van while on his Suzuki motorcycle.
It was reported by the police that a Mercedes van, driven by a man from Northern Ireland and a Ford Kuga, driven by an island resident, were also involved.
All vehicles were travelling from the Creg ny Baa towards Brandish.
Nobody else was injured in the incident.
The road remained closed until 2.50pm for collision investigation work to be carried out.
Mr Needham asked for his sincere condolences to be passed on to the family of Mr Gilmour, who was a caretaker at Liverpool University.
The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
