The island has been documented in a new Youtube video from a married couple who share their trips with thousands of followers.
Greg Chapman and Felicity Hawthorn visited the island in the autumn to record their travels.
It coincided with Greg performing at Ballakermeen’s Studio Theatre.
Their time in the island saw them ride on the railways, go seal spotting at the Sound and check out Castle Rushen.
Greg told the Examiner: ’We would like to say, if we didn’t make it clear in the video, how incredibly friendly and welcoming everyone was. Before we had even left the island we had booked up to return with another show next year, and looking forward to being back.’
The couple stayed at Milntown and spent their first day in the island exploring the south. Introducing the Isle of Man to their viewers, Greg described it as ’beautiful and wonderful’.
Felicity seemed quite taken with the animals which can be spotted inManx waters. Talking about their visit to the Sound, she said: ’I could stay there all day and just look at seals.’
Sharing his love of steam trains with viewers, Greg described the Manx Electric Railway as like ’the death of steam’ but admitted that ’it is too beautiful’ not to fall in love with. Later in the video, he does get to ride on the steam train as they picked up the Douglas-bound service from Castletown.
They had planned on getting the train to Port Erin until they realised that train was being pulled by the diesel.
Luckily, they had time to run around to the other platform and catch the Douglas bound steam train instead.
Remarking at Castletown station’s interior, Greg added: ’It’s just wonderful how much of the island you can actually get across by the old trains.’
Marine life made another appearance in the film, as when Greg was introducing viewers to Peel Castle, he and Felicity got a bit distracted by, as she put it, ’a beautiful seal’.
After their visit to Peel, Greg and Felicity filmed the stunning views from the Snaefell Mountain Railway as it climbs out of Laxey, through the valley and up to the summit, and cafe.
Felicity said: ’The time it took to eat a slice of cake was time for the mist to clear enough to show us some of the stunning views.’
The couple plan to return to the island this year, with Felicity wanting to see more marine wildlife such as puffins and basking sharks.
Greg added: ’It’s nice to be made welcome when you’re travelling, to turn up in a place and not feel like you’re being treated as an outsider or anything else but just being welcomed by people who want to show you the beauty of their country.
