People are being invited to take part in a six-day charity trek in Spain to raise money for a good cause.

Charity Junior Achievement is raising funds to support its work in the island’s schools.

A six-day charity trek in October 2020 will follow one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in the world, El Camino de Santiago (The Way of St James) in northern Spain.

The way is marked by the symbol of the scallop shell, typically found on the Galician shores.

The trek will take place from October 23 to 30, 2020, and is open to anyone aged 16 and above with no upper age limit.

JA chief executive Sue Cook said: ’Over thousands of years millions of pilgrims have walked El Camino de Santiago and now we’re offering people in the Isle of Man a chance to follow in their footsteps and come with us on a journey of a lifetime.

’I participated in a trek to the Great Wall of China and will also be taking part in the El Camino trek. I was a complete novice and for me it was life changing.

’Although El Camino is a pilgrimage walk, we’re doing this to raise funds for the charity,

’It’s not associated with any religious group. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn more about this trek to come along to the presentation on September 18.’

Junior Achievement is again working with professional challenge specialist Ultimate Challenges, which has previously organised a China and a Vietnam trek on behalf of the charity.

The El Camino de Santiago trek will be from October 23 to 30, 2020.

For people interested in finding out more about the trip representatives from Ultimate Challenges will be giving two presentations on Wednesday, September 18, at 1pm and again at 6pm in Douglas.
