An urgent reminder has been issued to council house tenants not to let anyone in without positive identification.
The warning comes after reports of unknown men visiting properties and asking to see the kitchen.
All genuine council officials will have photo-identification which householders are entitled to ask for before admitting anyone to their property.
A council spokesman said: ’Please bring this to your neighbours’ attention to ensure that everyone knows. The housing office team has notified the police.’
Anyone with concerns or information should contact the housing office on 696435 or the police on 631212.
