Charities that want to hold street collections or flag days in Douglas town centre next year have until November 9 to submit an application.

Douglas town centre manager Oliver Cheshire said: ’The regenerated Douglas town centre provides an ideal setting for the many local good causes looking for heightened visibility and to promote their campaigns and services.

’Douglas town centre management is committed to working with them to enhance their street-collection initiatives and we know that, although households’ budgets may be stretched in these difficult economic times, people in the Isle of Man are unfailingly generous when it comes to charitable giving.’

Under the by-laws, 28 applications will be considered in any one year - not including emergency two-day street collections following a disaster appeal.

The council will also consider applications for licences in non-town centre areas of Douglas on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information and application forms search ’Licensing’ at Douglas town centre management’s website dtcm.im or Charitable Collections and Flag Days at douglas.gov.im.
