The Summerland Memorial Concert, now in its fifth year, raised the roof at the Peel Centenary Centre on Saturday night.
The concert, dedicated to and in celebration of the 50 people who died in the disaster, featured some of the best of the island’s talent.
There were musical performances from Anna Goldsmith, Hamish Faragher, The Fecktones, Mad Daddy, The Birds And The Beards and poetry readins by former Manx Bard, John ’Dog’ Callister.
The evening was sponsored by Browne Craine & Co with all proceeds going to Alder Hey Children’s Burns Unit.
Organiser Chris Gary said: ’I’ve been putting together the line up for Summerland Memorial Concert for five years.
’It’s quite an easy task, to be fair, because musicians on the island are always, and have always been, fantastic in helping out with concerts of this nature.
’That they rehearse, travel to and from, and play these gigs for free is always hugely appreciated.
’We should be extremely proud of the wealth of talent we have over here, it’s incredible really. I try to have good a mix of acts each time I put the line up together for the concert, in the hope that there’s something there for everyone, and I think there always is.’
Fellow organiser Tina Brennan added: ’I’m continuing to campaign for a memorial on the derelict [Summerland] site, which has been for sale for 10 years. My hope is that a memorial of significant size, to do justice to this huge tragedy, will be incorporated into any proposals.
’I’d like to appeal to anyone who can help in achieving this to please get in touch with me.’
