The weather forecast from the Met Office
Persistent and often heavy rain will continue to affect the island this morning, creating difficult driving conditions with areas of standing water on the roads. The rain will turn more showery in nature later this afternoon, but with the threat of a little sleet or wet snow briefly over the hilltops before the rain clears eastwards early this evening. Windy with a strong north to northwest wind which may touch gale force in exposed spots this afternoon, with highs of 8°C.
Once the rain clears the rest of the night will be dry with clear spells developing, as the strong north to northwest wind falls light, with temperatures dipping generally near to 3°C, but close to freezing over the hills and in sheltered spots with a risk of a slight frost.
After a chilly start, Thursday will be fine with lengthy sunny spells and a light to moderate south to southwest wind. Pleasantly warm in the sunshine with temperatures reaching up to 9°C at best.
Friday will start cloudy with rain soon moving in from the west, clearing later in the afternoon to leave a dry night. Highest temperature around 9 or possibly 10°C in the strong south-easterly wind.
