The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for coastal overtopping.

The forecast:

Largely dry now for the rest of this morning then with rain returning early in the afternoon before clearing in the evening.

Fresh to strong south to southeast winds increasing strong to near gale force in the afternoon, and will perhaps touch gale force for a time late afternoon and evening. This will lead to significant coastal overtopping around the time of high tide (2:30pm). Top temperatures up to 14°C. Wind easing overnight.

A mostly dry day on Wednesday with just a few showers and mainly moderate southwest winds turning to the westerly and easing. Top temperatures of 13°C.

Thursday will be a dry day with perhaps some sunny intervals. Moderate to fresh west or northwest winds and a top temperatures of 13°C again.

Last night, the Steam Packet warned that this morning’s crossing to Heysham might not go ahead because of windy weather. However, the master decided it was safe to go.
