Strong winds will mean the sea will batter the island’s coastline today.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for coastal overtopping.
The forecast:
Spells of rain soon developing this morning, falling as sleet or snow over the hills initially, turning heavy at times with some hill fog and strengthening south-southeast or southerly winds reaching gale force. Highest temperature about 8 Celsius.
The last spell of rain should clear away by early evening, as the strong wind swings to the southwest and moderates. Then getting just a few scattered showers later in the evening and tonight, with minimum temperatures around 4°C.
Bright or sunny spells and isolated wintry showers on Thursday, with a strong southwest wind. Top temperature 6°C.
Mostly dry for Friday although often rather cloudy with fresh to strong southwest winds.
